WILLIAM DATA SYSTEMS Ltd. (UK)
William Data Systems was formed in 1993 as a collaborative venture between two
IT professionals – Will Wharton and Liam Hammond. With extensive IT experience in both
technical and managerial roles, the co-founders saw an opportunity to enhance network
availability and simplify the life of network technicians. It was an idea that would
empower other members of the IT department to become involved in network problem determination.
The idea was simple. Remove the complexity and overhead associated with running network
traces and generate trace output that was easy to interpret and eliminated reliance on a
library of network and protocol manuals.
The result was Exigence and once IP support had been added to Exigence, the introduction
of Implex for IP monitoring was a logical progression. This was closely followed by the
addition of FTPalert for the management of FTP users and resources and was supplemented by
the acquisition of RouteView, the powerful VTAM path table generation and verification tool.
“Our aim is to build a range of products that address the major issues in the networking
world with special attention to the requirements of z/OS and its users. This has been the key
to our success,” said Liam Hammond. “By really understanding the impact that z/OS and the
network have on each other, we have delivered products that have set the standard for others.
We have many more product ideas that are currently being researched and developed. We hope to
bring you news about them soon.”
